Practice
It's great language practice to listen in on radio talk shows and music in the target language. There are many on-line Spanish language radio stations available. If you're a beginner, you'll notice that you can pick up a word here and there. As time goes by, you'll hear even more. First, listen for "cognates" words that sound similar in Spanish and English; 33% of the Spanish language is like this, i.e. universidad & computadora.
Before long, you'll know many Spanish words and phrases, just by listening in!

The radio is one of the oldest and most dominant forms of communication. It gives us news, entertainment and a view of our culture. It is a symbol of our time, both old and new, by traditional airwaves and transmitted on the web. It's important that we keep radio available to all and representative of all our people!

Media consolidation is diminishing diversity on the radio. A new study concludes that while ethnic minorities constitute 33% of the U.S. population, only 7.7% of them own the radio stations. While there are multitudes of new, important topics that resound in the media recently (the environment, the presidential election, global warming), it is important to consider the source from which we inform ourselves.
We should promote a media that reflects the diversity of our all our citizens!
